From pastel lips and neon nails to color-blocked shoes and bold accessories, the hottest trend hitting the streets this Spring can been encapsulated into three letters: P.O.C, that’s Pop of Color, people.
If this fabulous little acronym sounds familiar to you, it’s because Brad Goreski, the star of my favorite new show, “It’s a Brad, Brad World,” coined the phrase in a recent episode while having lunch with his lady friends. The new Bravo hit show follows this up-and-coming style powerhouse through the excitement of embarking out on his own (after years as Rachel Zoe’s assistant) and making a name for himself in the glimmering, cutthroat world of fashion styling. Known for his colorful personality, and even more colorful wardrobe, Brad is definitely one of my fave style inspirations this season… or ever.
“The” Color of 2012
But don’t just take it from me (or Brad). P.O.C. has been popping up all over the red carpet and the runway, with 2012 collections boasting bodacious hues of bright oranges, reds, corals and pinks. It’s no surprise that this color palette is catching on after Pantone Color Institute®, the aficionados of color worldwide, released their 2012 color of the year, Tangerine Tango. While last year’s Pantone color, Honeysuckle, encouraged people to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor, Tangerine Tango, according to the Institute, is “a spirited reddish orange” that was prescribed as a way to help “provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward” in this current economic state.
Since POC seems to be a prescription for happiness, why not add a dabble of color here and there? If you’ve got a flare for flashy, get on trend with a bright green blazer or a tangerine trench. A little intimidated about busting out so bold? Now’s your chance to take the plunge (or maybe just dip your toe in) with a bright bangle or sassy skinny belt. Trust me ladies, you won’t be disappointed. After all, what better way to get a little extra attention from the hottie at the other end of the bar than to pop a hot pink nail, coral lip, or pastel purple tank underneath that new, cropped blazer?
And why stop with fashion? Add a chic punch of color to your couch with a new accent pillow, to a wall in your kitchen or entry with a burst of sunshine, or even glam up a new gadget with some unexpected POC.
Here are my fave finds for fab color on a less than fab budget (all QuickieChick approved!):
Mossimo for Target Colorblock Clutch (cant decide…I like the pink/orange and blue/green!)
H&M small bag (in blue w/pink stripe)
Forever 21 Three-Tone Braided Belt (in purple/orange)
Skinny Patent Leather Belt (in sunshine)
H&M Fitted Blazer (in cerise)
Urban Outfitters Silence & Noise Boyfriend Blazer (in hot pink)
How are you going to show off your POC this season?
